Information & Amenities

The Fairmont San Francisco

Hotel Information: Host to presidents, celebrities, and the traveling elite, this palatial Nob Hill hotel has been a social hub since opening in 1907. An $85-million restoration in 2001 resurrected the remarkable vision of architect Julia Morgan. Now tourists, celebrities, heads of state, and locals come to experience the top-notch service and admire the grand façade, Corinthian columns, and gilded-relief ceilings.

Amenity highlights: The historic seven-story main building and modern 24-story tower that comprise The Fairmont hotel contain a fine-dining restaurant and lounge, a health club (surcharge), beauty salon, business center, and a tropical tiki lounge—where it really does rain every 30 minutes. The hotel’s chief concierge is Tom Wolfe, founder of the prestigious Les Clefs d'Or concierge association in the U.S. Wireless Internet access is available in public spaces.

Insider tip: Given its history, it is worth spending some time exploring the hotel itself. A room off the lobby was the spot where the United Nations Charter was drafted in 1945; the Venetian Room, once the city's foremost supper club, played host to Frank Sinatra and the Rat Pack, and was the place where Tony Bennett first sang I Left My Heart in San Francisco.

Property Amenities

The Fairmont San Francisco has two restaurants, including a fine-dining restaurant and lounge adjacent to the lobby, and a tropical tiki lounge with an island in the middle of a pool, live music, and dancing.

Other highlights include a health club and fitness center with weights and cardio equipment; spa, sauna, and steam rooms (surcharge). Aerobics and yoga classes are offered, and massages are available to hotel guests at a discounted rate. A business center has computers, Internet access, photocopiers, and other services (surcharge).

Complimentary Town Car service is offered to the financial district in the morning, and the hotel has several shops, including a cigar store with Cuban cigars (pre-embargo).
