Hotel Majestic
Information & Amenities
Hotel Information: When Hotel Majestic opened in 1889, in a converted 18th-century palazzo, it was the first hotel on Via Veneto. Its yellow facade, curved to follow the street's contour, remains a landmark. A palazzo atmosphere is preserved in a lobby with high, molded ceilings and highly polished dark woods and in function rooms featuring original ceiling frescos by Domenico Bruschi.
Amenity highlights:The fine-dining restaurant serves breakfast, lunch, and dinner, and includes a garden terrace open from spring to autumn with panoramic views of Via Veneto. A lower-level garden terrace overlooking the street is also open for all meals during warm-weather months. The brasserie and piano bar is lined with autographed photographs of celebrities who have stayed at the hotel.
Insider tip: A two-storey extension of the hotel's building along Via Veneto houses Arion bookstore, one of Rome's largest. The Hotel Majestic sponsors periodic readings by prominent Italian authors in its ballroom, and the bookstore holds all its autograph sessions for authors, and other promotions, in the hotel.
Property Amenities
The split-level lounge includes historical photographs of the Hotel Majestic, antique mirrored-glass walls, green damask seating, and a four-sided dark-wood kiosk in the centre with complimentary newspapers and antique clocks displaying the time in New York, Tokyo, London, and Sydney.
The business centre has three private booths containing computers with high-speed Internet connections (surcharge). An attendant offers business services like photocopying and faxing and can arrange secretarial and translation services.
A nearby garage offers parking for €25-€30 per night, depending on the size of the car, and attendants provide valet service at no extra charge.
The public areas of Hotel Columbus include original antiques and portraits of distinguished figures. Some wall frescoes include pastoral scenes commissioned by priests during the 200 years the palace was occupied by the Penitentiaries to give them views of the Roman countryside, which they could not visit themselves.
Guests climbing the Hotel Columbus' broad marble staircases can rest on wood benches, as the priests once did; little marble window seats provide views into the courtyard.
Two lobby computers supply complimentary high-speed Internet access. Complimentary wireless Internet access is also available in public areas.
