Hotel Information: Arrayed over 26 acres of flowering gardens, lily ponds, and rubber, mango, and palm trees on the North Coast near the airport's runways, Sandals Montego Bay draws romantic couples seeking day and night group activities as well as space for being alone together. (Guests must be couples at least 18 years of age.)

Amenity highlights: Sandals Montego Bay features 550 yards of private beach furnished with thatched shades and lounge chairs that provide all guests with ample space for quiet sunbathing and swimming in water that remains calm in most weather. Four pools provide freshwater swimming, and four spa tubs supply social soaking. The main pool measures 20-by-9 meter (65 by 30 feet). Two others are 10-meter-diameter (33-foot) half-moon pools. Another small pool borders a swim-up bar.

Insider tip: West of the beach is a lengthy walkway over the coral-rock oceanfront. At the end is a little-known, secluded, eight-person spa tub that offers a sunset view.

Property Amenities

The majority of amenities and activities at Sandals Montego Bay All Inclusive are included in the room rate; guests will not be charged extra for most amenities and activities (scroll up to the All-Inclusive Details section for more information).

Registration takes place in an air-conditioned lounge with overstuffed seating, potted plants, and wicker-paddle ceiling fans. Guests are seated and presented chilled towels and champagne. Guests in rooms and suites that include concierge services have access to private concierge registration. A kiosk in the concierge center provides all guests high-speed Internet access (surcharge).

Situated in a secluded garden with orchids and candles, a health-and-beauty spa features three couples’ rooms, one with a two-person spa tub in an alcove. The spa offers hydrotherapy (including Vichy showers), massage, reflexology, body wraps and scrubs, facials, waxing, paraffin treatments, hair braiding, and hair and nail care.

A cluster of three wooden-roof open-air pavilions house a fitness center with cardio and weight machines, free weights, and a workout area for aerobics, Pilates, and yoga classes; a sauna; and a 12-person spa tub and plunge pool. There are four pools in total, as well as four spa tubs and a swim-up bar.

Evening entertainment is on an indoor stage under a multi-colored fabric ceiling and includes karaoke, casino games for charity, cabaret entertainers, and staff/guest talent shows. A Monday night beach party features a Jamaican buffet, fire dancers, and a steel band. A disco offers DJ music nightly and provides bar service until late night/early morning. Daytime activities include games and athletic competitions and dance lessons.

Sandals' chapel serves as a site for weddings and also offers Sunday evening nondenominational services.

Guests of the resort are also entitled to use facilities, including restaurants, at all Sandals resorts in Jamaica. Complimentary roundtrip transportation is provided to the two other Sandals resorts in the Montego Bay area (Sandals Inn and Sandals Royal Caribbean).

A resident nurse is on duty from 8 AM - 5 PM. Services are complimentary; charge for medication and doctor's consultation should those be necessary.

This Jamaica Sandals Resort offers 245 guestrooms and suites in four three-story buildings without elevators and in one- and two-story cottages. Tropical-plantation decor includes tile floors, mahogany furniture, bright floral fabrics, and framed island art. All accommodations have air conditioning, amenity kits, satellite TV, clock radios, hairdryers, irons and ironing boards; coffeemakers, and in-room safes.

Suites additionally offer mahogany four-poster beds, sitting areas, in-room bars, bathrobes, and daily New York Times faxes.

Sangster/Montego Bay International Airport (MBJ): Approximate driving time to Sandals Montego Bay All Inclusive is 10 minutes and distance is 4 km (2.5 miles).

Driving directions from Sangster/Montego Bay International Airport: Depart airport to highway A1 east. After approximately 4 km (2.5 miles) the resort is on left.

Getting there: The resort provides complimentary airport transfers. Airport greeters direct arriving guests to the Sandals desk outside the baggage claim area, where clerks arrange van transport to the resort. Taxis ($5-$15 USD) are also available (prices subject to change). Although rental cars are available online, few visitors to Jamaica rent cars unless they are comfortable driving British-style (on the left).

Activities

The resort features 503 meters (550 yards) of private beach, consisting of a shallow, 274-meter (300-yard) section with water divided by narrow piers and a 229-meter (250-yard) section of flat sand extending 46 meters (50 yards) deep. Thatched shades and lounge chairs along the beach's entire length ensure tranquil sunbathing and swimming for all guests even when the resort is fully occupied.

Four pools provide freshwater swimming. The main pool measures 65 by 30 feet and is paired with a 10-person spa tub. Other pools comprise a 10-meter-diameter (33-foot) half-moon pool adjacent to the health-and-beauty spa; a 10-meter-diameter (33-foot) half-moon pool adjacent to Presidential beachfront one-bedroom suites; and a small, free-form pool with swim-up bar that is part of the Piano Bar. There is also a fitness center on site.

Guests have use of canoes, kayaks, pedal boats, small sailboats, scuba-diving gear, snorkeling gear, hydro-bikes, windsurfers, and four lighted tennis courts. Pilates, yoga, and aerobics classes are offered in a fitness center. Land sports include table tennis, shuffleboard, basketball, horseshoes, bocce, outdoor chess, volleyball, and tennis on three lighted courts.
