Hotel Information: A romantic tropical retreat tucked between mountains and the Caribbean Sea, Sandals Grande Ocho Rios is situated along a private stretch of white-sand beach on Jamaica’s north coast. Rooms and suites are located in three main buildings and in smaller villas scattered throughout the property’s lush gardens. This all-inclusive resort accepts adult couples only.

Amenity highlights: Eleven on-site dining options are included in the room rate. Recreational amenities comprise seven main pools, 22 whirlpools, a private beach club, a fitness center, a 30-foot rock-climbing wall, and complimentary use of equipment for various land and water sports. Two on-site spas offer European and Caribbean-inspired treatments (surcharge). Guests also enjoy complimentary access to a nearby partner property and the Sandals Golf & Country Club.

Property Amenities

Nestled between the Caribbean Sea and the St. Ann Mountains, Sandals Grande Ocho Rios is an all-inclusive resort exclusively for couples 18 and over. Tropical gardens cover terraced hillsides sloping down to a private white-sand beach.

Seven main pools and 22 spa tubs are scattered throughout the resort grounds; guests also enjoy a range of included land and water sports, a rock-climbing wall, and a fitness center with cardio and weight equipment and exercise classes. Also included are green fees and lessons at the nearby Sandals Golf & Country Club. Massages, wraps, and scrubs are among the treatments available at the resort’s full-service spas (surcharge).

All-inclusive dining comprises eight restaurants and three bistros on site, as well as a dine-around program at a companion resort.

All accommodations are air-conditioned and have mahogany king four-poster beds, as well as private bathrooms with bathtubs and showers. Sangster International Airport (Montego Bay Airport) (MBJ): Approximate driving time to Sandals Grande Ocho Rios Beach & Villa Resort is 2 hours.

Getting there: The resort provides complimentary airport transfers. Airport greeters direct arriving guests to the Sandals desk outside the baggage claim area, where clerks arrange van transport to the resort. Taxis (US$36+) are also available (prices subject to change). Although rental cars are available online, few visitors to Jamaica rent cars unless they are comfortable driving British-style (on the left).

Getting around: The resort provides complimentary roundtrip transportation mornings, afternoons, and evenings to a companion resort, Sandals Dunn's River Golf Resort & Spa All Inclusive 7 km (4.5 mi) away, where guests have access to all facilities, including restaurants. Complimentary shuttle service is also available to Sandals Golf and Country Club 10 km (6 mi) away, with greens fees (but not mandatory caddy or rental of clubs and carts) part of the resort's All-Inclusive Plan. Taxis are available at the resort.

Activities

The majority of recreational activities detailed below are included in the room rate for this resort (scroll up to the All-Inclusive details section for more information).

Guests can take advantage of all water and land sports facilities and equipment plus instruction for all sports. The one exception is golf on the 18-hole par 71 course at nearby Sandals Golf & Country Club, where green fees and instruction are complimentary but guests must pay for mandatory caddies and rental of clubs and carts.

Facilities are located in both the Manor and Riviera areas of the resort and include seven main swimming pools, including a zero-entry main Great House pool and 22 spa tubs. Two air-conditioned fitness centers feature four dry saunas and offer classes.

One of Jamaica’s major attractions, Dunn’s River Falls, is a 10- to 15-minute drive from the resort. The river tumbles 600 feet over a series of gigantic limestone steps to a white-sand beach below. Visitors can climb up through the falls; expert guides are available to assist with the wet ascent (surcharge). There are also ordinary stairs and observation platforms alongside the falls.
