Hotel Information: Visiting faculty of the University of Hawaii mingle with leisure travelers, fitness enthusiasts, and celebrating couples at the quiet, oceanfront New Otani Kaimana, across from Kapiolani Park and within walking distance of Waikiki. They check in family-style in an open-air lobby, and take advantage of health, beach, and meeting facilities, as well as alfresco dining under ancient hau trees.
Amenity highlights: The New Otani has a surf shop that offers lessons and rental beach equipment and kayaks. On site are also a fitness center with a personal trainer, and two health/beauty salons, one with complete wedding services. Guests may dine open-air under ancient hau trees close to the ocean or in a traditional Japanese restaurant—or they can brownbag it with supplies from the snack shop. The banquet rooms offer wireless Internet access.
Insider tip: Sans Souci Beach was a favorite spot of Robert Louis Stevenson. Historical photographs onsite tell of an era come and gone.

A 15-minute walk from Waikiki proper—on its quiet Diamond-Head side across from Kapiolani Park—the New Otani Kaimana hugs Sans Souci beach. A surf shop onsite provides lessons, beach equipment, and kayak rentals. Concierges are available all day. Two oceanfront restaurants and a snack shop are onsite.
Faxing and copying can be arranged with front desk staff. A spa facility offers Chinese herbal treatments, wedding and beauty services, and acupuncture. On the premises are a hair salon, a fitness center with cardiovascular and weight equipment and sports massage, and a sundry/grocery store.
Valet parking:
$15 per 24-hour period (fee subject to change). Parking on the parking lot in front of the hotel must be prearranged, and is limited.
Nearby parking:Additional parking is available along Kapiolani Park. The area is patrolled by city police at night; security cannot be guaranteed.

Room Descriptions
Located throughout nine floors in an oceanfront main building and three floors in a park-side wing, the 125 rooms at New Otani Kaimana are furnished in contemporary island decor of light woods and tones of turquoise and violet. Rooms in the main building are located around an open-air atrium and are accessed by elevators. In the park-side wing, rooms are accessed by stairwells.
Cubed pineapple awaits guests in the rooms’ compact refrigerators. All units have furnished lanais, wireless Internet access (surcharge), and newspaper delivery every day but Sunday. They include safes (surcharge), cable TV with movies, and Neutrogena toiletries.
All guestrooms are nonsmoking.

Honolulu International Airport (HNL): Approximate driving time is 40 minutes and distance is 12 miles.
Driving directions from Honolulu International Airport: Take the H-1 Fwy heading east to exit 25A for King St. Turn right at the second light onto Kapahulu Ave. Follow Kapahulu Ave until the road ends at a T intersection. Turn left onto Kalakaua Ave. Immediately take the right fork in the road. The hotel is the first tall building on the right (ocean) side of the street.
Getting there: Several independent shuttles operate between the airport and Waikiki, charging $9–$20. On arrival, shuttle reservations are not necessary, but recommended. On return, shuttle reservations are essential. Taxis are widely available and charge $25–$35 for travel to Waikiki.
Getting around: Around Waikiki, shows, shops, activities, beaches, and restaurants are generally within walking distance. Oahu’s bus system offers connections around the island with fees starting at $2 per day. Most visitors with plans to venture away from Waikiki prefer rental cars.

Activities
Located on quiet, pristine Sans Souci Beach and across from Kapiolani Park, New Otani Kaimana has access to good snorkeling and swimming. A well-known surfing school, located in the Diamond Head wing of the hotel, offers lessons, beach equipment rentals and kayak instruction/kayaks. A fitness center has weight training and cardiovascular equipment, with a personal trainer available for aerobic and yoga classes as well as sports massages (surcharges). Two beauty salons (one with one-stop wedding services) provide nail and hair care and massages.
Across from the hotel entrance, Kapiolani Park offers tennis courts, a zoo, and walking and jogging trails. The beach esplanade leads to the Waikiki Aquarium and Diamond Head hiking—a 15 minute walk away.

Hau Tree Lanai - Open-air restaurant on the beach, serving breakfast, lunch, and dinner. Offers quiet romance under trees and stars. Asian-American fare includes poi pancakes and seared fresh fish.
Miyako Japanese Restaurant - Intimate, ocean-view, second-floor dining spot. Japanese decor, ambience, and menu. Dinner only. Great sake and traditional kaiseke dinners, sushi, and fresh fish.
Sunset Lanai Lounge - Lobby-level, oceanfront bar, open from late morning until late evening. Good sunset viewing over drinks and appetizers. Entertainment Tuesday–Saturday.
Scoop Du Jour - Catering to beach-goers, friendly spot sells soft drinks, local take-out, sandwiches, and delicious pastries from early morning until late afternoon.
