Hotel Information: The Sundial Beach & Golf Resort caters to families, who appreciate the resort’s many activities and child-friendly amenities. Sanibel Island, the northern portion of which is a National Wildlife Refuge, teems with birds and sea life. Guests can rent kayaks or arrange dolphin-watching tours, and kids love the on-site educational center, with an aquarium and petting pool.
Amenity highlights: Tennis players can alternate between the resort’s six hard-surface courts and six clay-surface courts, two of which are lit for night play. Five heated outdoor pools offer freshwater recreation, while a mile of private beach and water-sports equipment rentals provide myriad opportunities for saltwater fun. Guests also receive discounts at the nearby semi-private Dunes Golf and Tennis Club.
Insider tip: The J. N. "Ding" Darling National Wildlife Refuge, named for Pulitzer Prize-winning cartoonist and environmentalist Jay Norwood Darling, teems with native wildlife, including birds, reptiles, mammals, and plants. A four-mile scenic drive, walking and biking paths, and canoe trails all provide access. The refuge education center includes an observation tower with excellent views of surrounding flora and fauna. Fees are $5 per car, $1 per cyclist or pedestrian. Children ages 15 and younger bike and walk free.

Situated on one mile of private Gulf of Mexico beach, Sundial Beach & Golf Resort, a family-friendly place, is within a mile of Periwinkle Way boutiques and 2.5 miles from the wildlife refuge.
The Cycles and Sails Hut, by the main pool, rents bicycles for exploring the island and a variety of non-motorized sports equipment, including kayaks and wind surfers. The resort’s 12 tennis courts are supported by a pro shop and a staff of tennis professionals. One of the five outdoor pools has a poolside bar, and a restaurant serving local seafood features gorgeous views of the Gulf.
The Explorer’s Kids Club, based out of the on-site environmental learning center, offers a variety of activities year-round (surcharges may apply). A fitness center, business center, and game room are also on site.

- Follow the Terminal Access Road out of the airport; turn right onto Treeline Avenue Extension.
- Continue on Treeline Avenue for approximately 2.5 miles, turn left onto Daniels Parkway.
- Drive under the I-75 overpass.
- Continue straight ahead, crossing US 41 to Summerlin Road, (Daniels Parkway becomes Cypress Lake Drive once you have crossed over U.S. 41).
- Turn left on Summerlin Road. Continue on Summerlin 10 miles to the Sanibel Causeway ($6 bridge toll, subject to change).
- Cross the causeway; continue straight ahead to the four-way stop at Periwinkle Way.
- Turn right onto Periwinkle.
- Proceed on Periwinkle 0.6 mile to Donax.
- Turn left onto Donax; continue to the stop sign.
- Turn right onto Middle Gulf Drive.
- Follow Middle Gulf Drive through the S-curve (turning left at the fork, and right at the stop sign).
- Sundial Beach & Golf Resort will be a short distance on your left, proceed to the second entrance.
Getting there: Taxis are approximately $65. Rental cars are generally the most convenient option.
Getting around: Sanibel Island has 17 miles of bike paths, and bicycles are a popular choice for exploring this 15-mile-long island. Bicycles are available for rent at the hotel. Rental cars are available online.

Activities
The Sundial Resort offers a wide range of recreational activities. Twelve tennis courts (six hard courts and six clay courts) are supported by a pro shop. The Cycles and Sails Hut rents bicycles and non-motorized water sports equipment. Five heated outdoor pools make swimming and sunbathing possible throughout the property.
The Explorer’s Kids Club for ages 4 to 12 offers arts and crafts, beach games, and pool games (surcharges). The on-site Environmental Coastal Observatory Center, with an aquarium and touch tank, provides a variety of activities.
Beachcombing is a popular activity on the long, shell-strewn private beach. Rare and beautiful shells can be found here, including spotted leopard crab carapace, lion's paw, angel's wing, and lightning whelks.
Guests receive discounts at the semi-private Dunes Golf and Tennis Club, two miles away. The back nine of the Dunes golf course is an Audubon-sanctioned wildlife preserve.
