Hotel Information: Visitors arrive up a leafy driveway shaded by trees and flanked by gardens comprising sweeping lawns, hedges and rolling hillocks. The hotel’s low-ceilinged lobby has a rustic farmhouse feel with red ceramic floor tiles, and prints of Tuscan landscapes on the walls. Insider tip: A 10-minute walk through century-old olive trees, across the scenic and windswept hills of Florence, takes guests to the Certosa Monastery. Entrance is free and tours are conducted by Cistercian Monks. After the tour, visitors are free to walk around outside the convent and in the cloisters and visit the pharmacy where excellent liquors, honey, and natural medicines are sold.

Room Descriptions
The Bettoja Hotel Relais Certosa comprises 63 guestrooms spread through several parts of the building, including the original 13th-century construction and more modern additions. Rooms are traditionally-styled retaining many original features with rustic touches including dark wood furnishings, Tuscan plaster walls and typical Florentine carpeting. Windows are covered with slatted shutters and some rooms feature exposed wooden beams.

Getting there: The hotel, with prior notice, can arrange free shuttle transportation to and from the airport. Taxis are available at the airport and cost approximately €20. It is also possible to take the half-hourly bus, which transports passengers to Santa Maria Novella Station, in the centre of Florence. From there, a taxi will cost around €10.
Driving Directions: From A1 Roma/Milano motorway, take the ‘Firenze Certosa’ exit and follow signs for Centro Città. After about 500 metres from the toll-booth turn left onto Via di Colle Ramole, where the Relais Certosa is located.
Pisa Galileo Galilei Airport (PSA): Approximate driving time is 90 minutes and distance is 80 kilometres (50 miles).
Getting there: Tickets for bus and train services to Florence are available at the airport (some trains require connection at Pisa Centrale); cost is around €5-10 and journey time is approximately 80 minutes. Both leave approximately every half hour and terminate at Santa Maria Novella Station. A taxi to the hotel from Pisa would cost in excess of €200.
Getting around: Buses service Florence city centre; tickets can be bought at tobacconists or vending machines. Tickets are sold on a time basis - one-hour, two-hour or 24-hour tickets. Traffic is restricted in the city centre and parking is expensive, so the centre of Florence is best explored on foot. Taxis wait outside Santa Maria Novella Station. The hotel also offers a complimentary shuttle service into the historic centre of Florence.
