Cancun Vacations
Cancun comes to life when the sun goes down. One can find a restaurant to match your mood and appetite. For entertainment, choose anything from a quiet lounge to one of Cancun's many modern dance clubs.
Cancun is richly entertaining, but it is not rich in culture. A waiter in a hotel restaurant shared his opinion that tourists who do not venture outside of the hotel zone have not even seen Mexico.
The Riviera Maya is a 130-kilometer strip beginning South of Cancun and extending past Tulum. It's a great base for those who want access to Cancun and Cozumel but prefer a setting a comfortable distance from the crowds. The primary tourist areas along the corridor are Playa del Carmen (sometimes referred to as "Playacar"), Puerto Aventuras, Akumal and Tulum. This corridor ranges from solitary beaches to modern resort complexes. Playa del Carmen, where you can catch a ferry to the island of Cozumel, used to be a sleepy fishermen's village. It's now a home for boutiques, restaurants, and a growing number of resorts hotels. The majority of these resorts have embraced the popular "all-inclusive" concept, offering guests a package complete with meals, drinks and popular water sports.
