Amenity highlights: A 457-meter (1,500-foot) beach of nearly white coral sand runs past this Barbados resort, with lounge chairs and umbrellas providing sunbathing comfort and snoozing shade. A large lagoon pool in a rock garden includes a shallow children's section and a 10-person spa tub for social soaking. A second freeform pool supplies an alternative freshwater swimming site and sundeck.

Insider tip: The resort takes its name from endangered sea turtles that lay eggs on Dover Beach fronting the resort from April to November, with hatchings into December.

This Barbados resort, located on the island’s south coast, is flanked by a long, white-sand beach where sea turtles nest. Many guests walk to St Lawrence Gap, which is known for its dining and nightlife.

Supervised activities are available for children ages 3-12 in an air-conditioned clubhouse and open-air playground. The resort’s three freshwater pools include one children’s pool. An air-conditioned fitness center contains cardio and weight machines as well as free weights. Two lighted tennis courts and aerobics classes offer additional recreation, and an 18-hole championship golf course is five km (three mi) away (surcharges). Musicians perform live music nightly (seasonal) in a poolside gazebo, and the manager hosts a weekly cocktail party.

Turtle Beach Resort has 161 guest suites in four four-story sand-colored, wood-shingle buildings with elevators. Suites feature large patios or balconies with two-chair dining sets. Decor includes white-washed pine trim, crown molding, pale tile floors, rattan furniture with pastel cushions, and white sheer curtains. Rooms are cooled by air conditioning and ceiling fans. In-room safes are available with a deposit.

Driving directions from Grantley Adams International Airport: Take ABC Hwy. Turn left at the Top Rock roundabout. Proceed straight to the next roundabout; exit the roundabout at the halfway point. At the next street turn left, and at end of the next road, turn left at the fork in road.

Getting there: A taxi-van from Grantley Adams International Airport to Turtle Beach Resort costs US$5-$15 for one to four passengers. Car rentals are available online. Driving is on the left side, British-style. All prices are subject to change without notice.
