Hotel Information: Although the Occidental Grand includes a children's club, the principal attractions—swimup bar, casino, disco, fine dining—appeal primarily to celebrating couples and other adults seeking beach holidays in the center of the Palm Beach scene.

A 24,000-square-foot casino opens at noon for slot machines, with blackjack, craps, roulette, Caribbean stud poker, and three-card poker available from 5 PM until the casino closes at 3 AM (schedule subject to change). The casino bar hosts live music nightly.

Wireless Internet access (surcharge) is available throughout the Occidental Grand Resort. A business center contains five computers with high-speed Internet access (surcharge).

The Occidental Grand Aruba offers 391 guestrooms in two nine-story buildings with red-tile roofs. Furnished balconies and patios face the pool, garden, or sea. Two-poster beds are topped with white damask comforters, blue-tone throws, and blue throw pillows. Mahogany-stained furniture includes desks. Rattan-paddle ceiling fans supplement air conditioning. Rooms have upholstered chaise longues. Marble bathrooms include glassed-in shower/tub combinations.

TVs offer U.S./international cable channels. DVD and CD players are also provided. Compact refrigerators contain water, soft drinks, and beer. Wireless Internet access is available (surcharge, except in Royal Club rooms).

Royal Club rooms are located on the top three floors (7–9). Guests of these rooms enjoy access to an exclusive 9th-floor, panoramic-sea-view concierge/check-in lounge serving buffet and à la carte breakfasts, lunches, and dinners. These rooms also include complimentary wireless Internet access, 24-hour room service, bathrobes, and turndown service. Royal Club guests receive a fruit basket and bottle of wine upon arrival. Driving directions from Queen Beatrix International Airport:

• Depart airport to the west on the main road.
• Continue through the downtown area, and proceed until reaching the "High Rise Hotels" sign.
• Bear left at sign. The resort is on the left.

Getting there: Taxis cost $16–$25 for one to four passengers.

Getting around: Public buses operate through the High Rise and Low Rise hotel districts and to downtown Oranjestad from early morning to late night. Aruba's roads are well maintained and easily navigated with the aid of a map. Driving is on the right side.

The Occidental Grand Aruba faces a 137-m (50-yard) stretch of Palm Beach along the turquoise Caribbean Sea. A 137-m (50-yard) lagoon-style pool includes a swimup bar and a rock-waterfall island with two spa tubs.

The resort supplies snorkeling gear, windsurfers, small sailboats, pedal boats, and kayaks. Water-sports centers on the beach rent personal watercraft and offer parasailing, banana-boating, waterskiing, tubing, kneeboarding, wakeboarding, snorkeling, scuba, and sailing adventures.

Land sports include tennis on two lighted courts, beach volleyball, and basketball.
